Your initiatives to maintain your carpet’s appearance and the overall health of your home is important. What you don’t want is to develop an infestation of carpet beetles, damaging your carpet and upholstery.

Regularly cleaning your carpet is important. Whether you regularly vacuum or schedule professional carpet cleaning, your initiatives can go a long way at maintain your carpet’s appearance and the overall health of your home. What you don’t want is to develop an infestation of carpet beetles, damaging your carpet and upholstery.

Carpet beetles are those which are known to eat material substances found in your carpet, upholstery, drapes, or other similar items in your home. When adult beetles find their way inside, such as cut flowers being brought in or open doorways or crevices, these eerie little critters can create a huge headache for you—a potential costly one at that!

Carpet beetles can feed on many items in your home, not just carpet! These items can include:

Wool carpets, rugs or clothing

Animal skins and furs

Stuffed animals

Leather

Hair

Silk

Dried plants

Walk around your home every once in a while and look to see if you find reddish or yellow-brown larvae. Carpet beetles will not only feed on wool or other fibers found in homes, but also feed on the soiled dirt found within dirty carpets and furniture. These destructive pests are known to cause more damage than the infamous closet moths. This is but one of the many reasons for keeping your carpets and upholstered furniture cleaned on a periodic basis.

Vacuuming – Important, but Not Sufficient

It is important to understand that carpet beetles do not feed off of synthetic materials. Don’t be misled by their name. Many believe that it is the carpet itself that carpet beetles feed on, when in fact it is the soils within carpets that make a good meal for the larvae. Having the imbedded grease or remains from basic human existence within your carpets and other materials is most often not visible to the naked eye.

Generally, when most of our customers request carpet cleaning it is usually for aesthetic purposes: getting out the stains. We at Cornerstone Chem-Dry work to build the awareness of the serious effects that may arise from allowing your carpets to build up unseen soils.

What You Can Do

It’s easy. Regularly vacuum and clean your carpet and upholstery to remove the surface soils. You should also have your carpets professionally cleaned by someone—preferably Cornerstone Chem-Dry of course!

We are professional carpet and upholstery cleaners that have the equipment and revolutionary Chem-Dry cleaning process that effectively deep cleans your home where grocery and Home improvement stores-rented equipment does not compare. You get what you pay for, and with us—you get a whole lot more. Oh, not to mention the super speedy dry time!!!

Carpet stains happen and are inevitable. Grass and mud stains require two different cleaning techniques to ensure proper cleansing. If mud and grass stains occur at the same time, we highly recommend cleaning the mud stain first, followed by the grass stain.

Carpet stains happen and are inevitable. Grass and mud stains require two different cleaning techniques to ensure proper cleansing. If mud and grass stains occur at the same time, we highly recommend cleaning the mud stain first, followed by the grass stain.

When mud and grass stains occur, it is essential to tackle the stains quickly so as to prevent the possibility grinding the stain deeper into the carpet, causing more permanent damage.

For mud removal, allow the mud ample time to dry. Also, try to protect the area stained by mud so that it is not walked on, causing the mud to be grind further into the carpet. Once the mud has had time to dry, use something with a flat edge (such as a butter knife) to scrape away any large clumps of mud. A spoon can also come in handy for this. After the larger pieces of mud have been removed, you a vacuum to remove any smaller mud residue. At this point, the vacuum should remove the remaining majority of mud.

Next, quickly and thoroughly treat the stained area by using Cornerstone Chem-Dry’s Professional Strength Spot Remover. The Professional Strength Spot Remover removes the most stubborn spots from colorfast carpets, upholstery, and auto interiors by using our powerful carbonating process to lift stains to the surface allowing for effective stain removal.

Grass stains are entirely different creatures. To solve the problem of grass stains, you can spray the area with Cornerstone Chem-Dry’s Professional Strength Spot Remover. Allow the spot remover to soak for 3-5 minutes before blotting the area with a clean towel. Repeat the spray and blot process 2 or 3 times, or until a majority of the stain has been removed.

For more information on our professional stain removal and carpet cleaning services, please contact us at today at 877-685-9663. Be sure to ask about our current specials as they’re great ways to get save!

For those of you with tile and stone flooring in your home, I can almost bet that at some point you’ve spent some time on your hands and knees trying to clean the stained spots in your tile grout, scrubbing, and scrubbing – and scrubbing. That’s hard work, especially for your knees!

your tile and grout floors. So make sure you give us a call and ask about this.

Although your tile floors may be restored to their original beauty by us or our cleaning solutions, it is important to remember a few care tips for the daily maintenance of your floors:

Clean spills immediately – The porous material of grout causes staining agents to absorb quickly

Wear sock or slippers – Walking on your floors whether tile, wood or vinyl, is comparative to taking sandpaper and rubbing it on the floor surface. Yes, your shoes act the same as sandpaper while the friction of walking combined with the dirt on the bottom of your shoes scratches the surface causing a dull appearance or even more visible damage.

Regular cleaning – Our recommendation is to have your tile and grout cleaned every 18 – 36 months

For more quick tips on cleaning your tile and grout floors, or for more information on how Cornerstone Chem-Dry can help you out, give us a shout at 877–685–9663. Ask for me, Erika Herman! Oh, and don’t forget about the $50 off your next tile and grout cleaning services.

It might be easy to assume furniture fabric cleaners and carpet cleaning solutions as one big cleaning category. Soap is soap, right? It’s quite the contrary, actually. The fact is that the soiling or stains that occur in our carpet can be different from those left on our upholstery.

There’s Dirty and then There’s Dirt

The primary carrier for dirt in carpets would obviously be our shoes. The soiling brought into carpet by our shoes will tend to differ from the dirt substances brought onto upholstery.

In the studies of the cleaning industry, one of the many aspects is determining water-based and oil-based substances. As we sit and live upon the furniture in our homes, culprits for upholstered contaminants can include:

Soiling such as shedding skin cells

Sweat and oils from our skin

Air-borne and clothing-borne soils

Dander, etc.

According to What are Fluoro Chemical Protectors and How They Work by Dr. Aziz, PHD Chemist, “[Dirt repelling agents] for carpets are designed more for soil resistance than for water or oil resistance, whereas the ones designed for upholstery emphasize more oil and water repellency”.

Cornerstone Chem-Dry Upholstery Cleaning

Many upholstery cleaning companies in Dallas/Fort Worth often use cleaning agents which can result in leaving a dirt-attracting residue. Our aim at Cornerstone Chem-Dry is to clean your home and leave it with a longer-lasting effect rather than a short-term, “look-good” job with short-term benefits.

Once our professional upholstery cleaning technicians have restored your furniture pieces to their intended beauty, we would like to extend a few tips for keeping your newly-cleaned upholstery in good condition:

Vacuuming the fabric on a regular basis eliminates heavy build-up and soil becoming embedded

Clean spills immediately, remembering to blot and never to rub

Turning and fluffing cushions regularly to avoid clumping or sunken spots

Smoke outdoors or away from upholstery to limit the staining and yellowing of nicotine tar

Position furniture away from direct sunlight to cut down on fading and damaging effects

Use the Cornerstone Chem-Dry fabric protectant for less soil penetration and easier cleaning

We Understand

We at Cornerstone Chem-Dry make ourselves available not only with the top-knowledge in upholstery care, but in locality. Since easy availability is important for us, we would like to extend a special welcome to those who live in Dallas, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, and Tarrant Counties. No matter where you live in North Texas, from Rockwall to South Lake, Cornerstone Chem-Dry can clean and treat your home.

Call us today at 214-367-3938 or 877-685-9663 for more information on our Sofa and Loveseat Cleaning Special for only $150. Plus, ask about some of our professional Chem-Dry cleaning products that can help your furniture looking beautiful longer.

One more thing, yes—we clean and treat leather furniture as well.

Tile floors look great and are generally easy to maintain and clean if you know what to do. Keeping your tile floors spotless is a huge asset to any room because it creates an overall glow to the space. Rooms with tile floor are often the ones left with the most grime and mud from shoes or cooking and eating.

Grime is why constantly cleaning tile flooring is a must for anyone who wants a space that looks great. One of the most important aspects of tile floor cleaning is sweeping. By taking some time out of your day to sweep, you can often maintain a great looking tile surface with little effort. Sweep your floors frequently to remove any loose dirt and dust. If possible, take off your shoes when inside or keep a pair for house use only. Small rocks and grime brought indoors on the bottoms of shoes can create a big mess and can even scratch tile floors.

Another important part of tile floor cleaning is mopping the floors. Many floor cleaners and even bleach can leave a film on your tile floor’s surface. This can be seen when you view the floor from certain angles or under certain lighting conditions. To avoid this dull residue, only use warm water when mopping and make sure to chance your rinse water regularly. Otherwise, you’ll be rinsing with dirty water—that’s counterproductive! If you want to use a tile cleaner for maximum cleansing, select a product which doesn’t require rinsing, and only use a small amount.

For specific spot cleaning tile floors there are some basic concepts to remember:

Clean spills right away. Although most tiles are glazed and stain-resistant, grout is porous and can absorb liquids that can lead to stains if not treated.

Dry small drops and splashes as soon as you make a spill because even clean water can leave marks.

Spot clean water marks and smears with a damp cloth to wipe the marks away and then dry.

Keep a scraper handy to carefully remove crayon marks, grease smudges and spilled food. Always be careful to avoid scratching the tile.

Sometimes mopping is not enough to remove tough stains or marks. A residue that is difficult to mop up is especially common after a new tile floor has been installed. Spot cleaning with a mild acid solution and rinsing afterwards can sometimes help remove such residue and other stains. These acid solutions can eat away grout however, so rinse well, and always remember to keep the room ventilated.

For floor grout stains, use a toothbrush to target the problem area. Use a mild acid solution and rinse immediately after. It’s important to note that acid solutions are only good for spot cleaning grout and you CAN NOT use on natural stone (marble, travertine, granite, etc.) You may event contact us as we offer professional-grade tile and stone care products and other professional recommendations on how to properly care for your floor.

Cornerstone Chem-Dry is an industry leader in professional tile and stone care. There are often stains, marks, scratches, and other issues that at home care just cannot treat. We even can reseal your grout to help preserve and extend its life.

As if slippery sidewalks and cold cars aren’t bad enough during the winter, you face another potential headache: ruined carpets, water damage to your ceilings and walls, not to mention your personal property from leaks caused by bursting pipes. You can avoid the resulting aggravation and expense by taking several basic steps right now to prevent this kind of damage.

Freezing Pipes
Frozen water in pipes can cause water pressure buildup between the ice blockage and the closed faucet at the end of a pipe, which leads to pipes bursting at their weakest point. Pipes in attics, crawl spaces and outside walls are particularly vulnerable to freezing in extremely cold weather, where holes in your houses outside wall for television, cable or telephone lines allow cold air to reach them.

To keep water in pipes from freezing, take the following steps:

Fit exposed pipes with insulation sleeves or wrapping to slow the heat transfer. The more insulation the better.

Seal cracks and holes in outside walls and foundations near water pipes with caulking.

Keep cabinet doors open during cold spells to allow warm air to circulate around pipes (particularly in the kitchen and bathroom).

Keeps a slow trickle of water flowing through faucets connected to pipes that run through an unheated or unprotected space. You can even drain the water system, especially if your house will be unattended during cold periods.

Cover all outside hose faucets.

Know Your Water Supply
Know where shutoff valves for the main water supply, certain appliances, sinks and toilets are located in your home. In the event of a leak, this will enable you to quickly shut off the appropriate valves before calling Cornerstone Chem-Dry. Consider shutting off your water supply if you will be away from home for a week or more.

Inspect your plumbing water lines and waste lines for leaks, damage or corrosion. If you notice problems, hire a licensed plumber for further inspection and repairs.

Protecting Your Home from Water Damage
Water Loss Mitigation Devices. Water damage can occur almost anywhere in your home. Frozen water lines as well as water-bearing appliances and fixtures, such as refrigerators with icemakers, dishwashers, washing machines, toilets and water heaters, are common sources of water leaks. The number of these sources in today’s homes has led to an increased risk of water damage.

Unfortunately, slow leaks from these appliances and fixtures are often impossible to see until it is too late. If a leak goes undetected, it can lead to rotting in the house frame and subfloors and can be a precursor to a catastrophic leak that releases several hundred gallons of water. Water loss mitigation devices may help prevent these problems, while also saving you money on your homeowner’s insurance premium.

Passive Leak Detectors
Passive leak detection systems are intended to alert you to a water leak. They generally sound an alarm tone within the home when a leak is detected. More advanced products may be connected to a centrally monitored fire and burglar alarm system, alerting you if a leak is detected – even when you are away from the home.

Passive leak detectors are helpful, but they do not provide the best method of protection from water leaks. The effectiveness of these systems depends on someone being in your home to take immediate action to stop the leak.

Active Leak-Detection Systems
Active leak-detection systems provide a more comprehensive solution. These systems not only alert you of a leak, but also stop the water flow before it can cause significant damage to your home. These devices are typically installed on your home’s main water supply line and instantly shut off water flow once a leak is detected.

The leak detection methods vary by product but typically include the detection of higher or longer-than-average water usage and/or the use of small sensors placed near areas that are more prone to water leaks, such as a hot water heater, appliances or under sinks.

Active leak-detection systems can be quite sophisticated. They may offer sensitivity variables such as “at home” and “away” modes that affect the speed in which they respond. They can allow for sprinkler systems or other water-use-intensive systems and do not infringe on your water consumption preferences, such as taking long showers.

In addition, active leak-detection systems can be connected to a “smart home” system and/or centrally monitored alarm system, which could alert you when you are away from home. Generally, active leak-detection systems start at $500 and can cost as much as several thousand dollars, depending upon the product features, labor rates, and size of the system.

Shut off the water source.
Move furniture off of carpet to avoid furniture stains. Call your homeowner’s insurance company to start a claim if the damage is extensive. Remember most homeowner’s policies have a deductible equal to 1-2 percent of your home value.

If a water damage emergency happens to you…
Call Cornerstone Chem-Dry at 877-685-9663 immediately. Our trained and certified water damage technicians are on call 24/7 and will be dispatched to your location.

It is necessary to keep your carpet clean as this assures healthy living area. This even reduces your cost of buying new carpets. There are several different ways to keep your carpet clean. Vacuuming a high traffic area at least twice a week is essential.

Regular vacuuming alone does not always ensure that your house contains a clean carpet. Shampooing it regularly is necessary to actually get carpets clean. This method uses a steam-cleaning machine and a liquid-based cleaning agent which brings dirt to the carpet’s outer surface where it is then vacuumed up.

There are few other things that are very important that you should notice while keeping your carpets clean. As you are aware of the fact that shoes ruin your carpets. Therefore, it’s better to make your home a shoe free home. Place a doormat outside as well as inside the house to keep your carpet clean. As shoes carry lots of dry soil which acts as a major factor in spoiling your beautiful and expensive carpets.

If you wish to make your carpet last longer then, carpet stains need to be taken care immediately. There are many safe, effective and reasonably priced stain removal methods, which are used by professional carpet cleaners. Once the stain sets into the fabric of the rug, the element reaction will remain for sometime; this makes it quite impossible to remove. It is very important to treat the stains very well. The professional carpet cleaners can provide you with a spot test on a not easily seen area of the carpet before beginning. There is no point in doing harm to a carpet that you like. They even provide you with carpet stain removal chart.

It is a great idea to have your carpets thoroughly cleaned at least twice a year in order to keep the dirt and germs from building up in your favorite carpet and home. Before opting for any professional carpet cleaner in town you got to check out some important stuff about the service and reputation of the company. Check for the registration and certification details, as certification is the best way of saying that you have found the best expert to clean your expensive carpet. Go through their website and check for customers review on the services provided by them.

Do a basic Internet search on the person who owns the company? Also, make sure the company has done complete background checks on all employees entering your home. As anyone can with no trouble get in the cleaning business. There are many criminals who often take side jobs as carpenters, painters, and even as a carpet cleaner. Having a criminal working in your backyard is scary. It’s totally dangerous when the criminal is working inside your house.
