The Area Rug Cleaning Process

We utilize a unique process and highly specialized equipment that delivers the very best cleaning results without abrasive scrubbing, harsh chemicals or power spraying that can damage rugs. Whether we’re cleaning a delicate, antique Oriental, Persian or a contemporary area rug, our exclusive process safely and gently revives the color, luster and beauty of your rug.

When your rug arrives at our facility, it is carefully inspected for spots and stains, soiling conditions, wear patterns, repair needs and other areas of concern such as pet odors, etc. We then measure your rug and determine a cost for service.

The next step in your rug’s cleaning treatment is a vigorous “massage” to remove dry soils.

Dry soil removal is critically important to restoring the appearance and maintaining the life of your rug. A respected study by vacuum cleaner manufacturer The Eureka Company determined that a 9 x 12 rug can hold up to 87 pounds of dry soil before looking dirty! Deeply embedded dry soils are abrasive and saw away at rug fibers like sandpaper every time you walk across your rug!

Then your rug is placed into our unique wash pit for a swim. As your rug swims in the running water, soils are removed and the appearance of your rug is renewed without the use of brushes, power spraying, that can damage rug fibers.

Our special cleaning agent is added to aid in the cleaning process and to insure that colors are restored to their very best appearance. This system is so safe that we can clean even priceless heirlooms and sensitive foundation antiques with complete confidence!

After thoroughly rinsing your rug, the fringe is cleaned by hand. Then your rug is hung on a special rack to complete the drying phase. Air is gently circulated to further speed the evaporation process.

Once dry, your rug will undergo a final detailed inspection prior to being rolled and wrapped for final delivery.

Pet Odor Removal

Our rug cleaning process is perfect for the total removal of pet odors caused by pet urine as well as animal hair and body oils. Cornerstone Chem-Dry applies a special product to affected areas that contains extracts from plants and minute amounts of natural or nonionic surfactants and pure water.

This unique treatment breaks down the pet oils and the urine salts and odor causing bacteria that feed on them, neutralizing the odor. Our total immersion cleaning process then flushes these contaminants from the rug for complete odor removal.

Often, stains caused by pet urine are removed in the above process. However, on older, untreated pet urine contamination, yellow or brownish stains may remain. Our stain removal experts can often remove these as long as the dye itself has not been damaged.
